Greetings! It’s a Sunday afternoon and Rick is going to enjoy his race and we are ready to relax! We are going to do that by enjoying an adult beverage!
We love beer, but we are very choosy about the types of beer we drink. We hardly ever drink it but have a fridge full of it for when the mood strikes us. Rick can never grill without an icy bottle and sometimes I even indulge.
Today we are going to make a refreshing summer shandy which is reminiscent of the beer and lemonade that is served in Germany during the hot summer days.
Basically this is nothing more than a 3 to 1 ration of beer to lemonade. If you want to add orange juice instead, you will have a Bee Sting. If you mix beer and cola, you will have a Broadway (I think this sounds simply disgusting but I haven’t tried it yet but blech!) I did my research on this one.
We were inspired by a limited edition beer from Samuel Adams last summer called Porch Rocker. It only comes in the summer and we highly recommend that you give it a try if you see it in your area. I love the way it tastes!
We have used Utica Club Pilsener Lager for our Shandy today, but you could use any light brew (not light beer) such as Sam Adams Summer Ale or Porch Rocker, Spaten original, or any wheat/citrus brew you like. We do recommend a Pilsener/Lager.
Next week we will share how we make a Bloody Shandy, which is one of my very favorites, spiced up with some hot sauce and more!
