Greetings! Rick and I were lucky enough to stumble across hams that were deeply discounted due to the completion of the holidays. Stores are now starting to seriously mark down goods that were brought in for the holiday sales and did not get sold. I was able to get ham for $1.29 a pound! I could not pass that up!
I decided to make the ham again in the crock pot. This was a really easy way to make a ham and after my first try I am hooked. This time, though, I thought it might be nice to simply pour over a bottle of good quality BBQ sauce and let everything heat up. We usually use Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce and you have all heard me say it is one of our favorites. This time I decided to try something new because it was on sale buy one get one free so we used Garland Jack’s Secret Six Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce. I was excited to see that there is not a speck of corn syrup in this sauce, HFCS or otherwise! We also purchased a bottle of their original variety and they both are delicious and we may be switching to this brand just to mix things up!
I set the crock pot on low and let everything have a party for about four hours. In the end, we had a succulent, sweet and spicy ham that was perfect for a mid week meal of little sandwiches that we made with some pizza dough rolls I threw together and some baked beans. I took some of the juices in the bottom of the crock pot and put them in a little dish and ate my ham sandwich like a French dip only better! Texas Dips!
Really easy, really delicious and we have lots leftover for breakfast, lunch and even tomorrow night’s pizza!
I hope you will give this method of cooking a spiral ham, or any ham a try and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating!
