How To Make Canned Refried Beans Taste Amazing!

If you are short on time and/or don’t want to take the time to make homemade frijoles, then this video is for you.

Refried beans from a can taste pretty bad in my opinion so I figured out a way to improve their taste.

Most of their flavor comes from the fat you use. Now many people use lard (bad for you), bacon grease, and an assortment of oils. I am going to be using vegetable oil.

But I am going to be doing something different. You’ve have probably never seen anyone do this but I am going to infuse some flavor into the oil which is in turn going to make your beans taste pretty amazing if I do say so myself.

Since a lot of people simply don’t have the time to make homemade beans, you can easily doctor up any brand of beans you want whether it’s Ortega, Las Palmas or what have you.

Ingredients:
1 can of refried beans
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
salt to taste
1/2 cup vegetable oil
7 corn tortillas

Directions:
Open the can of beans and place in a sauce pan over low heat. Add the garlic powder, onion powder and a dish of salt (according to my son that is a combination of a pinch and a dash).

Next, heat a small pan of the oil on the stove over medium heat. Use a pan just slightly larger in diameter than the corn tortillas.

Once the oil is hot (you can test it by dipping a piece of corn tortilla into the oil with tongs, it should bubble up), you can begin cooking 1 corn tortilla at a time in the oil until it turns golden brown and the bubbling subsides.

When the tortilla is done cooking, hold if over the pan to drain and then place the tortilla on a paper towel covered plate to cool.

Once you’ve finished cooking all 7 tortillas in the oil, turn off the heat and place 3 teaspoons of the hot oil into the beans. Stir until fully incorporated.
