Back to Basics: How to Cook Rice – Japanese Cooking 101

Steamed rice is an essential part of Japanese cuisine.  We go back to basics and refresh our memories so that we will be able to have the most important component of Japanese meals.

In this video, we will show you how to
1. Choose the type of rice
2. Wash and soak rice
3. Cook white rice on the stove
4. Cook brown rice on the stove
5. Cook white rice with mixed grains in a rice cooker.

* 1 1/2 cup (360 ml) rice, short grain
* 1 2/3 cup (400 ml) water

* Brown Rice
* 1 1/2 cup (360 ml) brown rice, short grain
* 2 cups (480 ml) water
