Welcome to the GialloZafferano kitchen — I’m Debora, your favourite witch here to prepare with you a Halloween treat: Caramel apples, a traditional American autumn sweet. Let’s see what we’ll need.
• 4 Red and yellow apples
• A half cup of water
• 4 wooden sticks
• 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
• ½ teaspoon of cinnamon • A few drops of red food coloring
• 2 tablespoons of honey
• 2 and a half cups of sugar and
• 3 cloves
Let’s make our caramel apples.
First of all, get the sugar to melt in a dry saucepan together with the honey, and the water.
The sugar has melted. Now, add the spices — the cloves the cinnamon and the vanilla, and then the food colouring. Mix together, and now with a candy thermometer bring the mixture to 280F.
While the sugar is reaching the perfect temperature, you can get the apples ready. First of all, get rid of the stem. Then, run the wooden stick through the centre of the apple. You can also use a chopstick if you have that on hand.
When the sugar is ready, get a baking sheet ready by covering it with a sheet of parchment paper. Now it’s time to dip the apples. Be very careful because the sugar is at a very high temperature. Dip the apple like this and roll it cover it completely in caramel. Let it drip a little, and place it on the parchment paper.
Here are our apples. Let them cool for a few minutes and they’re ready to be eaten. From Deborah, Happy Halloween, and see you next time.
