Today we’ll be making together a decadent Carnival recipe: the nutella French toast stars! Begin by cutting out shapes from the bread with a cookie cutter, I’m using stars of course, but you can choose any shape you like. Instead of sandwich bread you may also use brioche bread, if you prefer.
Here’s our stars; don’t throw away leftover bread, but toast it in the oven and use a food processor to make breadcrumbs. Now take the nutella, that I left in the fridge to set for half an hour… if you want to speed up this step, keep it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. Then… take a teaspoon of nutella… that is quite firm, as you can see, but pliable at the same time… drop it on a star… and cover with another one… pressing it down. Repeat with the others. If you want, you can replace nutella with jam, but make sure to choose one that is firm and thick. Now take a bowl… and beat the egg… with the milk. Take a pan… and add the clarified butter… you can make it at home following the recipe on the YellowSaffron channel, or you can find it in well-stocked supermarkets. While the butter is heating, quickly dip the stars in the egg mixture … and add to the pan. Fry until golden brown on both sides. The stars are ready… now drain on a plate lined with kitchen paper.
Sprinkle the French toast stars with powdered sugar… and a few sprinkles… and enjoy the filling! Good, easy and quick!
